Ismail Belen handed over the Presidency of Silva Mediterranea to his Spanish colleague

A new president was elected at the 22nd Session of the Silva Mediterranea, held on 22 March 2017 in Agadir, Morocco.

İsmail Belen, who was elected as President of Silva Mediterranea in the second Mediterranean Forest Week in France in 2011, officially started the referendum at the 21st Session held in Antalya in 2012.

Ismail Belen, who made a speech during the task change, mentioned the following points.

My acquaintance with FAO dates back to the 1998s. In 2002, “Chestnuts in Turkey: brief introductory paper about chestnut in Turkey” was published in “Non-Wood News 9″. Http://www.fao.org/docrep/004/y3660e/y3660e00.htm

I have been working more actively since 2007. Since 2009 I have been following COFO meetings. Http://www.carfu.org/?p=590 or http://enb.iisd.org/fao/cof20/

Mediterranean Forest Week was organized for the first time in Turkey in 2010. Mediterranean Forestry Cooperation Partnership also started in Turkey in 2010.

I was able to sign a lot of successful works between 2012-2017, when I was the President of Silva Mediteranea. During this time I have had the opportunity to work with my esteemed colleagues in FAO and the Mediterranean region. I would like to congratulate them on this occasion.

I am  also congratulating the newly elected Spanish colleague José Manuel Jaquotot and I wish success for all of us.
